Erath County Release Records
A release must be tied to a custodian. The Erath County Jail can end its custody because of bond, a personal bond, time served, sentence expiration, dismissal, a court order, or transfer. Only some of those events put a person in the community. A transfer to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice, another jail, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody ends the county episode but continues secure custody.
The Erath County Sheriff’s Office creates the jail transaction. The related court supplies the legal authority, such as a bond order, dismissal, sentence, or probation order. TDCJ records a later prison release or discharge. “Discharge” means the relevant sentence or supervision term ended. Parole means a person serves the rest of a prison sentence under supervision, while probation is community supervision ordered by a court. Each term points to a different record and office.
| Event | Meaning | Next record |
|---|---|---|
| Bond release | Jail custody ends subject to bond while the case usually continues. | Jail transaction and signed bond |
| Time served | Credit satisfies the listed custodial term, unless another cause or hold applies. | Judgment and jail transaction |
| Transfer | Erath custody ends, but another agency takes custody. | Receiving agency record |
| Parole or mandatory supervision | TDCJ confinement ends under state supervision. | TDCJ release history and status |
| Discharge | The identified sentence or supervision is complete. | Court or TDCJ discharge record |
Erath County Release Record Fields
A focused request asks for existing fields instead of asking staff to write a summary. The jail may maintain a booking sheet, custody-status entry, release transaction, commitment or release order, and related property record. Public access depends on what exists and what Texas law permits the agency to release. The exact physical exit is best shown by the jail’s release date and time, not just by a court order entered earlier.
| Field | What it can establish |
|---|---|
| Booked name, alias, booking number | Connects the request to the correct custody episode. |
| Booking date and arresting agency | Identifies when and how county custody began. |
| Charge, statute, cause number | Links the jail entry to the right court docket. |
| Bond type and amount | Shows the bond tied to a cause, not whether all holds cleared. |
| Hold or detainer | Flags another agency’s claim that may block community release. |
| Release date, time, authority | Documents when Erath custody ended and why. |
| Transfer destination | Distinguishes community release from continued custody. |
Not every listed field will be public, releasable, or even maintained in the same form. Juvenile material, protected identifiers, medical data, victim information, sealed or expunged records, active-investigation material, and security information may receive separate treatment. Ask for the legal basis if part of the responsive record is withheld.
Request Erath County Release Records
The sheriff publishes an Open Records Request page that routes current submissions to its NextRequest portal. The Texas Public Information Act, Government Code Chapter 552, calls for prompt production, but it does not promise that every request will finish within a fixed number of days. A response may provide records, an estimate, or notice of a withholding process.
- Identify the booked person, date range, booking number, and cause number when known.
- Ask for the existing booking sheet and release transaction, including release date, time, authority, and transfer destination if maintained and public.
- Submit through the Erath Sheriff NextRequest portal. Choose electronic delivery and state a cost limit if useful.
- Use the jail line for immediate physical-custody confirmation. Use the records channel for copies.
- Pair the response with the court order or receiving-agency record before describing community release.

The sheriff’s policy uses the state cost-estimate model. If estimated charges exceed $40, it says a written estimate will be sent and half must be paid in advance. The policy lists exact-amount money order or cashier’s check, not cash. No fixed price was found for a release transaction, booking sheet, or photograph.
Erath Release Orders in Smart Search
The County Clerk and District Clerk share the Erath Tyler Odyssey portal. That shared entry makes Smart Search central after a person vanishes from the sparse jail web layer. Search by party name or cause number, then examine the court, charge, docket events, disposition, judgment, bond order, commitment or release order, and any probation or discharge order. The County Clerk handles county criminal matters such as misdemeanors. The District Clerk handles felony district cases.
The court record preserves legal events after a custody screen changes. It can show that a judge authorized bond, gave time-served credit, dismissed a case, imposed a sentence, or ordered community supervision. It does not always record the minute jail staff completed release. Pair it with the jail transaction for the physical exit and check every cause and hold.
The official Online Services page shows the local route to court records and the county’s “Inmate Listing.” The listing presently leads to a general jail information page rather than release history.
Smart Search is therefore a durable order-and-disposition source, but the jail transaction remains the source for the precise Erath County custody exit.
Erath Release and Expunction Rights
Texas moved expunction law to Code of Criminal Procedure Chapter 55A, effective January 1, 2025. Article 55A.451 directs the person responsible for release or discharge after arrest to give written information about expunction rights and a copy of the chapter. That notice does not mean every released person qualifies. Eligibility depends on the statute and case history.
An expunction can remove covered records under a court order. An order of nondisclosure limits disclosure of eligible criminal-history material but is not the same remedy. A missing public record may reflect either remedy, a spelling problem, a system change, confidentiality, or another custodian. Never fill that gap by guessing.
Find Erath County Released Inmates
Begin with the custody chain, not with one database. A person who no longer appears in a current roster may have left the community, transferred, or simply disappeared from a changing interface. Erath County does not publish a verified rolling 24-hour or 72-hour release list. The practical path combines direct jail confirmation, Texas IVSS-Counties, the court docket, and a narrow records request.
- Call Erath County Jail at 254-965-3221 and ask whether the identified person is physically held.
- Check Texas IVSS-Counties for a person-specific event and save any alert.
- Search the Erath Tyler docket for bond, dismissal, sentence, transfer, or supervision authority.
- If transfer is reported, follow the receiving custodian. Use TDCJ for state prison, the federal docket or BOP for federal custody, and ICE for immigration custody.
- Request the sheriff’s release transaction when the web trail is incomplete or exact timing matters.
Erath Released Inmates in TDCJ
A transfer from Erath County Jail to TDCJ is continued custody. For a state-prison case, use the TDCJ offender-information path and search with identifiers when possible. The newer status interface can display name, Offender Status, State ID Number, facility, Expected Release Date, Release Date, and intake or release history. “Expected” or “Projected Release Date” is a forecast. An actual Release Date and compatible status are stronger evidence of a prison exit.
| Search field | Use |
|---|---|
| Name | Start broad, then compare identifying details. |
| SID or TDCJ number | Separates people with similar names and follows a state transfer. |
| Offender Status | Shows current TDCJ classification, subject to update timing. |
| Expected Release Date | A forecast, not proof that release occurred. |
| Release Date | Historical date within the TDCJ custody system. |
The official TDCJ landing page shows the state routes available for inmate and release information.
Use the state record only for a TDCJ custody episode. It does not replace the Erath jail transaction or county court docket.
Erath Release Systems Compared
Each system answers a narrow question. Choosing the custodian first prevents a transfer from being mistaken for community release.
| System | Best use | Main limit |
|---|---|---|
| Erath County Jail | Current physical custody and county release transaction | No verified public release archive |
| Erath Tyler portal | Bond, disposition, sentence, and supervision orders | May not show physical exit time |
| TDCJ | State-prison status, actual release date, parole or discharge | Does not prove a county-jail exit |
| Texas IVSS-Counties | Person-specific county event alerts | Released people may vanish; not an official record |
| BOP locator | Federal sentenced custody and BOP release date | Ends BOP custody only |
| ICE locator | Current detainees and recent ICE releases | Limited post-release window and not proof of unconditional community status |
Erath Arrest and Release Paths
The arresting agency and booking custodian are not always the same. Stephenville and Dublin police can make an arrest, issue a citation, complete a municipal release, or transfer the person for county booking. Once someone is booked into Erath County Jail, the sheriff’s custody transaction becomes the direct local release source. A city police arrest report can explain the arrest, but it cannot replace the county jail’s later release entry.
Choose the court by charge and cause number. Stephenville Municipal Court handles separate Class C matters filed by city agencies. County misdemeanor cases route through the County Clerk and County Court at Law. Felony district cases route through the District Clerk and 266th Judicial District Court. One person can have cases in more than one court. An order in one docket may leave another hold untouched.
Pretrial diversion and bond mark different points in the timeline. Erath County Attorney’s pretrial diversion program can lead to dismissal after successful completion for an eligible participant, but it is not a release feed or bond process. A person may first post bond, later enter diversion, and receive a later dismissal. The bond and jail transaction explain the custody exit. The diversion record explains the later case result.
Erath ICE Release Search Window
The ICE Online Detainee Locator includes people released from ICE custody during the prior 60 days. That is a true recent-release window, but it is specific to ICE. “Released from ICE custody” can still involve reporting duties, check-ins, removal, conditions, or another custodian. Search with the person’s A-number and country of birth, or with biographical details as the locator permits.
After the 60-day window, use the immigration case and ICE contacts rather than treating a non-result as proof. A person arrested in Erath County may enter ICE custody through a detainer. The county release transaction should name the transfer when that information is maintained and public.
Federal Release Status in Erath
The BOP Inmate Locator covers many sentenced federal inmates from 1982 forward. “Released” or “Not in BOP Custody” ends BOP custody only. It does not rule out supervised release, immigration custody, state custody, or another federal arrangement. Federal pretrial releases belong in the federal docket, while U.S. Marshals custody must be traced through the actual detention site and court order.
Texas parole also has a system-specific limit. The Board does not hold an ordinary formal hearing calendar for parole consideration. Panels review files and vote individually on a rolling basis. A favorable vote may include a future date or program condition and does not prove physical release.
Erath County Release Facilities
The primary jail appears first. The remaining entries represent arrest, supervision, state, federal, or immigration systems that may form part of the custody chain. None of the office or system names is interchangeable. The Mineral Wells office addresses state parole and mandatory supervision, while Erath County CSCD handles local court-ordered probation. Police departments may create arrest records, but the jail creates the county booking and release transaction after a county booking. Federal and immigration systems each maintain their own scope and time limits. Follow the named transfer destination instead of assuming that an Erath County custody exit ended every form of custody.
